Jesus Encounters – The Rich Young Ruler
Mark 10: 17-23 (NIV)
As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’ 20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.” 21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”
What defines your SUCCESS?
Psalm 128:1-6 (NIV)
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. 2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord. 5 May the Lord bless you from Zion; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life. 6 May you live to see your children’s children— peace be on Israel.
“The remarkable thing about fearing God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God you fear everything else.” – Oswald Chambers
How to Leave a Legacy that Lasts:
1. Be PRESENT.

James 4:13-14 (NLT)
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
Create MOMENTS that make MEMORIES.
Psalm 128:3 (NLT)
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.
A Healthy Child Believes Four Things About their Father:
-My dad is strong–he has might and endurance.
-My dad will prevail in conflict.
-My dad knows what he is doing.
-My dad models true success.
2. Stay ENGAGED.
3. Express LOVE.
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
Proverbs 18:21a (NLT)
The tongue can bring death or life.
Every BOY wants to know: Do I have what it takes?
Every GIRL wants to know: Am I lovely?

4. Teach TRUTH.

Don’t just TEACH your children, TRAIN them.

Proverbs 22:6 (NCV)
Train children to live the right way, and when they are old, they will not stray from it.
5. Consistently DISCIPLINE.
CARE enough to CORRECT bad behavior.
Proverbs 13:24 (NLT)
Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.
My 3 Rules of Discipline:
1. Never respond in anger.
2. Always explain WHY you’re doing it.
3. Stick to your guns.
Ephesians 6:4 (NLT)
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
If you want to LEAVE a legacy you need to start LIVING it right now.
