Who is Jesus? - I Am the True Vine
Matthew 16:13-16 (NIV)
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Who do PEOPLE say I am?
Who do YOU say I am?
John 15:1 (NIV)
I am the TRUE vine, and my Father is the gardener.
I am the TRUE vine, and my Father is the gardener.
Jesus is the true SOURCE of LIFE.
John 15:2,4 (NIV)
He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

Pruning can be PAINFUL, but it’s necessary to become more FRUITFUL.
Staying CONNECTED produces FRUIT.
John 15:5a (NIV)
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you WILL bear much fruit.
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you WILL bear much fruit.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Matthew 7:16-20 (NIV)
By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

The PROOF is in the FRUIT.
Being DISCONNECTED produces NOTHING.
Being DISCONNECTED produces NOTHING.
John 15:5-6 (NIV)
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

How do we stay connected to Jesus?
1. COMMUNICATE with Jesus.
John 15:7(NIV)
If you remain in me and my WORDS remain in you, ASK whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
If you remain in me and my WORDS remain in you, ASK whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
2. DO what Jesus SAYS.
John 15:9-10 (NIV)
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love…
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love…
James 1:22 (NIV)
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

John 15:11 (NIV)
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
